Sundown on the Hudson - Original Palette Knife Painting Oil on Canvas
Original palette knife painting, oil on canvas. Original oil painting of the Hudson River capturing the last light of the day.
About the painting...
I made several ultra fast studies on board an evening cruise of this remarkable view. I was ultimately waiting for the sun to go down behind the distant buildings enabling me to capture the days remaining daylight before dusk. I made a very quick watercolour study of the light and took several photographs to work from for the studio painting. This is a complimentary oil painting using orange and blue which work very well together as they are opposing colours on the colour wheel. I have included a close up image showing the texture of the oil paint. As with all my palette knife paintings, the artwork has a thick, impasto type finish only achieved using the palette knife.
The original palette knife painting is completed using the highest grade artists oils on professional canvas. This is a long, panoramic style canvas measuring 48 inches in length by 12 inches in height. The canvas is quite heavy due to the wooden stretchers so the artwork will need to be displayed on suitable screws / wall plugs.
